SYMBOLS OF IRELAND
Brigid's cross, Brighid's cross, or Brigit's cross, or Crosóg Brigde (in Gaelic)
Is an old symbol of Ireland; It is usually made entirely out of rushes. It contains a woven center square and four radials,
which are tied at the ends. Many Irish and American homes still carry out the traditions associated with the St. Brigid’s
Cross.
These crosses are associated with St. Brigid and it is a belief that this cross protects homes from fires. St. Brigid’s
feast day is February 1st.
Celtic knots
There are an endless variety of knots that are associated with the Celts. These knots are also known for their
use in ornamentation of monuments and manuscripts like the Book of Kells.
The Claddagh
This ring has the distinct design of two hands holding a heart with a crown on top. The traditional meaning behind this
ring is said to be the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). Today, people feel the ring symbolizes love (the heart),
loyalty (the crown), and friendship (the hands). Makes a great gift of friendship, promise ring or wedding ring.
On the right hand: crown facing out= serious relationship, crown facing in= not in any serious relationship.
On the left hand: crown facing out= marriage.; crown facing outward= nothing, widowed, or engaged.
